Eglin Air Force Base is the largest Air Force base in the world by area — spanning 724 square miles across three Panhandle counties — and is home to the Air Force Materiel Command's test and evaluation mission, Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC) support units, and the 33rd Fighter Wing. Adjacent to Eglin, Hurlburt Field is the headquarters and heart of Air Force Special Operations Command, home to the 1st Special Operations Wing and the Air Commando legacy. Together, Eglin and Hurlburt represent the largest concentration of special operations and aviation test capability in the U.S. military, supporting over 60,000 military, civilian, and contractor personnel.
